2021 BMW X3 vs 2020 BMW X3

Serving Utica, NY

The BMW X3 falls into the category of small luxury SUVs. The X3 is a popular choice in the BMW SUV lineup with more space than some of the smaller SUVs in the X series, but it is slightly smaller than the X5. The primary difference between the X3 in 2021 and 2020 is that the X3 gets more standard amenities in 2021. This model year, the X3, includes some previously only available features, including Android Auto. There are more standard safety aids in 2021 as well. Although there are more standard conveniences in 2021, the X3 in both years is a solid choice.

Performance

Performance is the same for the X3 in 2021 as it is in 2020. The base engine for the BMW in both years is a 2.0L turbo. The engine, which has four cylinders, provides a generous total power output of 248 HP. You will also get just under 260 LB-FT of torque with the base engine. With the higher-end trims, you can upgrade to a more powerful V6 engine. This engine's power capacity is 382 HP, and its maximum torque gets a boost to 365 LB-FT. The same eight-speed transmission is on both engines. The first trim has rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is included on the others.

Appearance

The BMW's exterior appearance is mostly the same in 2020 and 2021. The first two trims, which are the sDrive30i and the xDrive30i, have nearly identical features. They both get heated power-folding mirrors and a power liftgate. Adaptive headlights come with the M40i, which is a higher-end trim that also has a sportier look. Performance tires and upgraded brakes complete its sharp-looking exterior.

Features

The cabin has most of the differences between the two model years. In 2021, Android Auto is added as a feature. Standard amenities and equipment also include simulated leather upholstery, a WiFi hotspot, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation, and three climate control zones. The base sound system has 12 speakers, and you'll get more safety amenities, including lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring. A panoramic sunroof and digital instrument display are available for the first two trims in 2020 and 2021. You can also upgrade to leather seats and get a heated steering wheel. Those available features are standard on the top X3 in 2020 and 2021.
